Overview

ProDG Plus for PlayStation®2 is a suite of advanced PlayStation®2 game development and debugging tools. ProDG Plus will incorporate extra debugger features which are not available in standard ProDG for PlayStation®2.

Products Included

ProDG

ProDG for PlayStation®2 is a suite of development tools (Emotion Engine™ (EE), IOP and VU) for building and debugging PlayStation®2 games. It consists of a Win32 port (with SN code generation improvements) of the GNU C/C++ compiler and SN's own fast assemblers, linker and debugger. A Visual Studio optional add-in provides App-Wizards for building EE and IOP executables and libraries, and allows you to launch SN's debugger. ProDG is compatible with the Sony Computer Entertainment software development tools.

ProDG Plus additional features include:

  • EE pipeline analyzer - implemented in the disassembly pane. For the first time you can get information on resource usage and stall information.
    • Resource usage shows the CPU resources required by that opcode.
    • Stall information is an estimate of the number of clocks stalled and the reason. This figure is an estimate since the debugger does not know about cache misses (all loads are considered to be from cache) and the way different stall effects combine is in reality more complicated.
  • ProView for PlayStation 2 - your ProDG Plus license enables you to download and use our artist preview tool, ProView.
    • Write custom tools and plugins for artists, testers and level designers.

Tuner

Tuner for PlayStation®2 lets you capture and visualize program behavior so that you can eliminate conflicts and bottlenecks in your code. High performance games can now be achieved with less guesswork. The Tuner captures data to a host PC in real-time while you play the game. The captured data can then be analyzed frame by frame and saved for later comparison with your optimized code.

NDK (Network Development Kit)

NDK for PlayStation®2 enables you to add networking capabilities to your PlayStation®2 application. The NDK TCP/IP stack is located on the IOP with a BSD like interface on the EE. We have added a fast EE API to significantly improve performance. NDK supports the Sony Computer Entertainment Network Adapter (Ethernet/modem) and the widest range of USB Ethernet adapters and USB modems.
